Using functions

How do I use a function?

The same way you use a native function like SUM or AVERAGE. For example, to calculate value-at-risk at the 95% confidence level for the standard normal distribution, enter the formula =QRS.VAR.NORMAL(0.95) into a cell.

To read the documentation of a function:

  1. Click Home.
  2. Click Show Task Pane.
  3. Click Custom functions.
  4. Click the name of the function.

This can happen for many reasons. Perhaps you don't have the right to use a premium function. Or perhaps you have fully utilized your quota of server-side function calls. Please hover your cursor over the error button to see the reason.

Why do I get a #NAME? error?

This can happen for many reasons. Perhaps you mistyped the function name. Or perhaps we introduced the function recently and Excel is reading outdated files from the Office cache. If that is the case, you can force Excel to fetch the new files by adding QRS Toolbox to Excel again or clearing the Office cache manually.

Why do I get a #VALUE! error?

This can happen for many reasons. Perhaps you left out a required parameter. Or perhaps you passed an invalid argument type or value. Please hover your cursor over the error button to see the reason.

Why do I get a #SPILL! error?
